Ivo Duchenne Docent
Ivo Duchenne, Lecturer.

It was my birthday, January 20th, that I met IVO (who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy) on LinkedIn.
I saw and know what his battle is about: raising awareness about the terrible muscular dystrophy of Duchenne, from which my brother Tonnie died 40 years ago.
Ivo brought back beautiful and painful memories for me.
Grief never goes away. And it doesn't have to. Tonnie is still in my life.
And I sent him an email. And he responded so warmly: that was a wonderful birthday present. That's how we formed a bond!
My son Dominic and I had arranged to walk the Walk4freedom in Vlaardingen on May 5th, an 80 km Kennedy March.
Those who are quick to grasp the idea understand that I was connecting the dots; I'm quite good at that.
Many kind people sponsored me, and when we came over on May 5th, it was fantastic.
The fact that we had succeeded was fantastic, but
Ivo also came with his foreman, Jordi, to welcome us.
So I was able to present Ivo with the check for the Beatrix Fund. And the AD newspaper ran a great article about Ivo and me.
But positIVO, or you could also say the mental powerhouse, keeps going, because it doesn't stop, and that's where Ivo and I reconnect.
This year's theme is Serious Request: Muscles for Muscles.
Connecting that business, I thought, and I told my friend and ours, Gert Jakobs, "We have a job."
Gert, the foreman, shouted, "DERRRANNN!" and "Where should we go?" That's Gert, we'll just take care of it.
Just do it; there's so much power in that.
Yesterday, the physical cycling powerhouse/domestic domestique and I, in the team car, headed to IVO's house with homemade fruitcake, and we made this vlog for IVO's campaign for Serious Request.
